Donations needed for purchase of canine agility equipment

May 18, 2011

As an open admission shelter, KHS is dedicated to finding rehabilitation alternatives for community pets experiencing behavioral issues. Some dogs may arrive at our shelter un-socialized, fearful and malnourished or in poor health.

KHS is in need of raising $1,500 to purchase 4 pieces of canine agility equipment to aid in our rehabilitation exercises for dogs requiring more than a walk, play session or our Open Paw training. This equipment is critical for rehabilitation. Candidates will have specific plans created to address specific needs.

Agility equipment for shelter dogs serves a greater purpose beyond human entertainment or learning basic canine commands:

Provides physical fitness for obese dogs or those experiencing weight-related health
problems and aids in muscle development.

Is a confidence-building activity for our fearful or high-anxiety dogs.

Increases the ability to learn and sharpens skills due to the training being fun.

Strengthens and builds the human animal bond for pets who may be fearful or
             un-socialized with other dogs/humans.

Serves as a learning tool to follow basic obedience and instructions.

           Increases endurance and confidence.

Sharpens dogs’ minds, which is essential in a kennel environment.

           Serves as a stress reducer.
