How to Adopt
Kitsap Humane Society is open for walk-through animal viewing from noon to 5 pm, and adoptions from noon to 4 pm, every day except Tuesday.
View our Available Pets online to see who is currently available for adoption.
Adoption updates take several hours. We cannot guarantee that specific animals listed on our website will still be available by the time you visit our shelter. For a more up-to-date list of available animals, try viewing our pets on Petfinder.
You may download a Dog, Cat, Small Animal, or Livestock Adoption Survey before your visit and bring it with you, or complete the survey when you arrive.
If you have completed a survey online but you are unable to print it out prior to your visit, you can email your completed survey to adoptions@kitsap-humane.org.
Walk-through animal viewing is back!
Kitsap Humane Society knows how important it is to make a “connection” with a new pet. That’s why we’ve returned to a walk-through viewing system, so you can meet your new family member face-to-adorable face.
Please note: on extremely busy days, our adoptions may close early in order to accommodate adopters during business hours.
You will meet with a Customer Service Representative to learn all about the animals you’re interested in adopting.
- Some dogs over 6 months old may require all household members (including other resident dogs) to meet with them before an adoption is finalized.
- With a small deposit, we will hold an animal for 24 hours. If the animal is adopted, the deposit will be deducted from the adoption fee. If not adopted, the deposit will be converted to a donation to KHS.
- If you are interested in meeting with an animal who is listed as available by appointment only, please email the appropriate adoption survey to adoptions@kitsap-humane.org.
If the meet-and-greet is a success, staff will complete your adoption paperwork to make it official!
- If your new canine or feline family member is already spayed or neutered, they will go home with you right away! If not, they will stay at the shelter for surgery, and you will receive a call for pick-up when your new pet is ready to go home – typically one or two days post-adoption.
- For safety reasons, adopted dogs must leave the shelter on a collar or leash. Cats must leave in a secure carrier. Collars, leashes, and cardboard carriers are available for purchase at the shelter.
- Small pets also require a size-appropriate, secure carrier. Livestock will need a size-appropriate, secured carrier (i.e., chickens, roosters, or ducks) or in a secure trailer (i.e., goats, pigs, sheep, etc.).
