KITSAP HUMANE SOCIETY PARTNERS WITH INTERNATIONAL
CHARITY TO BETTER SERVE COMMUNITY
Silverdale, WA – Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) has entered into a partnership to greatly enhance the services it provides to the Kitsap community, with a big assist by Bremerton Foodline.
Serving as the lone Washington state ambassador for Greater Good Charities – an international charitable organization that sources and manages excess, rebranded, and short-dated food and supplies – KHS has received more than 100,000 pounds of food and other supplies since January of 2024. A recent delivery of food was completely funded by Greater Good in support of KHS as it accepted more than a dozen animals that were relocated from shelters in Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Greater Good Charities’ GOODS program collects such products from manufacturers, distributors, and retailers and makes those products available to non-profits – similar to a food bank model, in that goods are donated, but freight, warehouse, and program costs are met by handling fees and donations, which costs KHS about nine cents per pound. Upon receiving the shipments, KHS acts as the hub of a multi-county “distribution wheel” and – with the invaluable help of Bremerton Foodline, doles out thousands of pounds of food to both animal and human welfare non-profits that qualify, while also stocking its own Pet Food Pantry which provides pet food and supplies to families in need.
“The opportunity to work with Greater Good Charities has really opened up what we’re able to do for the Kitsap community and beyond,” said KHS Co-Executive Director Jamie Nocula. We’ve always been proud of what we’ve been able to do for animals, and now we’re able to directly assist people as well. It’s another way to expand the critical safety net we provide. We know all too well that if humans are faced with food insecurity, so are their companion animals. This partnership allows them to not have to choose.”
Since becoming an ambassador for Greater Good Charities, KHS and its partner in this endeavor, Bremerton Foodline, have provided assistance to fellow non-profits such as The Rise Rescue Alliance, Central Kitsap Food Bank, PAWS of Lynnwood, Humane Society of Mason County, ShareNet Food Bank, PAWS of Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap, Their Voice, Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, and The Salvation Army, among others.
“We couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this effort,” said Bremerton Foodline Executive Director Cori Kauk. “When non-profits work together like this, it makes us all stronger – the organizations, the community, and the families we serve.”
