New Pet Adoption Center Grand Opening Celebration October 26!
October 22, 2019
Kitsap Humane Society welcomes the community to a special grand
opening celebration and open house on Oct. 26, showcasing the spacious new $6.2 million Pet
Adoption Center and pets available for adoption! Come see how happy and relaxed the adorable
animals are in their new digs!
The fun begins at 11:45 a.m. with a brief ceremony and ribbon cutting involving adoptable pets.
Festivities will include a day-long open house, refreshments, a prize wheel for kids, and adoption
specials from 12:00 – 4:30 p.m.
The new Pet Adoption Center was constructed right next to the old shelter building, at 9167
Dickey Road in Silverdale. It’s quiet and spacious, and staff and volunteers noted that the new
housing immediately reduced the stress levels of dogs and cats in our care. The new Pet Adoption
Center is also more comfortable and less crowded for people.
“The intent is to help animals get adopted — and if they are feeling more comfortable and are
healthier, they should more readily be adopted out,” says Executive Director, Eric Stevens.
The dream of building a new shelter has been on the minds of the KHS board of directors, staff,
and volunteers for years. In November 2016, following major growth in the number of animals
rescued and in the delivery of lifesaving services, the board voted to begin a capital campaign to
finance construction of the new shelter.
The Pet Lifesaving Capital Campaign has been funded entirely by generous donors. The $6.2
million Pet Adoption Center marks the completion of Phase I. Phase II will include the renovation
of the old shelter building for a new Canine Behavior Training Center and Veterinary Medical
Center. Total cost to complete this projected is estimated around $10 million. s
Many thanks to all the animal lovers in Kitsap and beyond who are helping us build a more
humane community. On behalf of the animals, we hope to see you there!
