This is a free class for people who wish to join our Delta Therapy Dog Group, or for those that have already joined us. Your dog must have completed our Basic Manners Class and must also be dog social in order to attend this free class. The purpose of this group is to help Pet Partner Teams work on focus and training with distractions, to discuss therapy animal topics, identify places needing animal visits and to network our group with the community. Some sessions are held in the KHS Training Center, others are held at a previously planned offsite location for enhanced practice sessions. Space is limited, so please reserve your spot in the class.

Training Session 1: At the Hop - Is your dog perhaps a little too enthusiastic when he greets people? Does he jump for joy when you come home from work? Do his greeting behaviors result in scratches, bruising, torn clothing and spilled coffee? Teach your over-the-top furry doorman to be a refined four legged host and get the attention and acceptance he is seeking with polite behavior. This training package addresses jumping up and mouthing, polite greetings on leash, and proper doorway manners.
Training Session 2: The Stroll – Just like this classic dance, you can stroll alone, but it is much more fun with a well trained partner. You and your dog will have a much better time out on walks when she is an attentive and enjoyable walking partner. This training package addresses on leash focus, handling distractions when out on a walk, achieving and maintaining a loose leash.
Training Session 3: Yakety-Yak - Is your dog keeping you awake? Or maybe friends have stopped calling and stopping because they cannot get a word in edgewise as your dog always dominates the conversation? Are your neighbors glaring at you when you arrive at home from work? This training package covers problem barking, by identifying motivation for barking and teaching the owner how to deal with those circumstances, training alternative behaviors for barking, altering the dog’s environment to minimize barking.
Training Session 4: There Goes My Baby - Keep your dog safe this by teaching him to come to you when you call him. Even when we are careful, dogs sometimes get off leash or run out the door. It is a good idea to teach your dog to return to you rather than going on his own expedition! This 3 step training package addresses how to teach your dog to come when called, stopping gate and door dashing and training an emergency recall.
Training Session 5: Stay (Just a Little Bit Longer) - Teach your dog the art of “just hanging out”. Teach him to stay while you are handling daily tasks such as bringing in groceries, cooking dinner, or entertaining friends. Three step training package to teach a solid down stay. Session 1 teaches holding the down position, Session 2 teaches remaining down with distractions, Session 3 teaches remaining in the down position while handler moves away from the dog.
Training Session 6: Johnny B. Goode – Maybe your dog needs a refresher obedience class, or you would like to get him started with basic manners. This three session training class will get you and your dog on the road to polite obedience by teaching you how to get your dog to come, sit, down, stay, and walk on a loose leash.
